DR. NINA FIGUEROA, PT, DPT
With a DPT Doctor of Physical Therapy degree from George Washington University and extensive experience at premier performance-based NYC physical therapy practices, founder Nina A. Figueroa, PT, DPT, opened Base PT with one goal: to provide highly personalized care backed by the most current research and effective techniques. With a history playing NCAA Division I women’s soccer as well as semi-professional soccer, she has a keen understanding of performance-related injuries and rehabilitation. She has also excelled in both outpatient orthopedics and inpatient care focused on post-operative orthopedics and neurological disabilities. Further, having worked with doctors behind IMPACT, a concussion assessment tool used throughout professional, collegiate and high school level sports, she has participated in the study and assessments of a growing post concussion rehab program. Dr. Figueroa practices evidence-based treatments and stays current on all relevant clinical studies. This ensures she can handle each patient’s unique physical circumstances and goals with the utmost care and respect.
ADAM J. GRESH, PT, DPT
Adam began his goal of becoming a physical therapist during his undergraduate studies at Gettysburg College where he played collegiate club rugby and golf. After obtaining his Doctorate in Physical Therapy from the University of St. Augustine in San Diego, Adam began practicing orthopedic and sports based physical therapy in Los Angeles. Upon moving to NYC with his wife and dog, Adam earned tremendous experience at a premier sports and orthopedic based PT practice in mid town Manhattan prior to joining the BASE team. Utilizing his love for manual therapy and treating soft tissue dysfunction, one of Adam’s main treatment goals is to empower the patient by educating proper exercise technique and soft tissue maintenance. He is certified in an Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization , specifically Graston Technique level I, as well as Rocktape certified. Adam’s attention to detail and evidenced based practice models ensures that patients will receive the highest quality of care.
ALEX MORALES, MPT
Alex Morales, MPT received his masters of physical therapy degree from Hunter College of the City University of New York in 2007. He began his career at The Burke Rehabilitation Hospital where he acquired extensive clinical experience in treating a wide variety of post operative orthopedic diagnoses, and neurological disorders. From Burke, Alex worked in Pediatrics where he gained clinical experience in treating children with spectrum disorders, sensory deficits, and developmental delay. Prior to joining Base PT, Alex assisted in the opening of an outpatient physical therapy clinic that provided much needed services to an underserved community. With a passion for treating sports injuries, Alex focuses on manual techniques, neuromuscular reeducation, and sport specific training with a goal to restore his patients to their prior level of function as well as educate them on how to prevent the reoccurrence of injury.
KADEEM HOWELL, PT, DPT, PES, CES
Kadeem Howell's interest in the sports medical field began with his history of being a Division I Track and Field athlete for University of Albany where he adopted a passion for movement, manual therapy and sports performance. Kadeem would spend his free time volunteering with UAlbany's Sports Medicine staff. He then continued on to receive his Doctorate in Physical therapy from Long Island University.
During his time as a graduate student, he had the opportunity to perform clinical rotations in orthopedics, inpatient/outpatient hospitals, sub-acute rehab, and sports medicine, learning from world renown Physical Therapist Mike Reinold, Kevin Wilk, and Brian Mulligan. He has had the opportunity to work with the NFL's Buffalo Bills alongside the team's medical staff, as well as participate on the Board of Directors for the nonprofit organization 'Stand Tall: Physical Therapy for the Homeless'. Kadeem's certifications and other experience include: Functional Movement ScreenTM, Performance Enhancement Specialist (NASM), Corrective Exercise Specialist (NASM), and the Institute of Physical Arts.
TOMMY CHENG, MS, ATC
With a Bachelors of Exercise Science and Sport Studies from Rutgers University and a Master’s degree in Athletic Training from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, Tommy Cheng, MS, ATC is a Certified Athletic Trainer efficient in the use of therapeutic modalities, orthopedic injury assessment, rehabilitative exercise, as well as acute and chronic injury care. His goal is to provide personalized and individual attention to assure optimal healing potential. His background in working with various athletes at the Divison I collegiete level, high school level, as well as within the physical therapy field has provided diverse knowledge in orthopedic care to aid in rehabilitation regardless of activity level and injury. Tommy is a firm believer in evidence based practice and continuing education to provide the best and most up-to-date treatment as possible.
GURBANS KAUR GREWAL, PT, MSc.PT, MPhty, CSCS
In her work as a physical therapist, Gurbans’ first priority is to bring her patients evidence based, individualized care, keeping total body fitness and recovery in mind. As the newest member of the BASE physical therapy team, Gurbans brings with her training and clinical experience from Canada, Australia and the US. Gurbans graduated with her Master of Science in Physical Therapy from Queen’s University in 2007, where she began her Sports training by working alongside collegiate basketball and rugby teams. Since then Gurbans has gone on to earn a second Masters degree in 2012 in Sports Physical Therapy at the University of Queensland in Australia. There she studied and conducted research under world-renowned professors and researchers. During this time, she also developed and delivered a seminar series to industry experts, developed a clinical assessment tool for the cervical spine and served on the Medical Team for University of Queensland Rugby. In addition to her clinical work as a physical therapist Gurbans is a Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist and also served as an instructor at Touro College. Gurbans currently practices in Austin, TX, and contributes regularly to our "BASE News" blog.
